2 PM PRE-CONCERT DANCE PERFORMANCE ON THE GREAT LAWN
Martha Graham Company: Lamentation (1930) and Satyric Festival Song (1932)
One of the most celebrated works in modern dance, Lamentation is a powerful and deeply moving expression of grief, resilience, and the human spirit, while Satyric Festival Song reveals Graham's more playful, witty side. Performed outdoors against the historic setting of Music Mountain, the two works bring together our two institutions founded only a few years apart, with Graham's pioneering spirit echoing that of our founder, Jacques Gordon. Martha Graham Company’s own Lorenzo Pagano will introduce each performance, opening a small window into the artistry behind these iconic works. It promises to be an afternoon where history, music, dance, and the beauty of the landscape come together in a truly memorable way. This dance performance has been sponsored by National Iron Bank, which was founded in our town of Falls Village in 1846.
